The Simplest Way To Display Chinese Characters In WinXP

Note that you don't need to install this on Windows 7/Vista. (installed on default)

1) Slide in your WinXP cd/dvd.

2) Go to 'Control Panel' -> 'Regional and Language Options', and click the 'Languages' tab as shown.

3) Check 'Install files for East Asian languages' and click OK. It will copy some files from your WinXP cd and install the chinese fonts. You may need to restart your computer after this.

4) If you can see these words, you're done: 你睇我唔到..你睇我唔到..

Extra Note:

Now, if some of the chinese programs are still unable to display chinese words (alien words seen instead), you'll need to modify some additional settings:

Windows XP

Click on 'Advanced' tab and change the language to 'Chinese (PRC)'. Restart your computer when prompted.

Windows Vista / Windows 7

Click on 'Administrative' tab and then 'Change system locale'.

Change the language to 'Chinese (PRC)' (or Chinese Traditional if you prefer). Restart your computer when prompted.
