sharing files across platforms

Wanted a simple way to share files between your PC, Mac, iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Mobile or Android phone? Dropbox uses cloud computing to store your files in an online folder which is accessible by all of them.

Take a break and view this simple video demonstration of Dropbox :)

It is recommended to install the dropbox software because it enables a folder on your PC which you could use just like any other folder in your harddisk. You could access your files even on computers that haven't installed dropbox, just use any web browser and login to dropbox.com to access them!

1) Click on my Dropbox link and register an account (free account comes with 2GB storage). Using my link will give an extra 250mb for both of us (part of its referral program).

2) Download Dropbox and install it.

3) You should now have an extra folder called 'Dropbox' in your Windows Explorer. It synchronizes the file on the server every time you update them, while keeping a 'history' of the old file for 30 days so you can recover it during that time.

Extra Features:

  • Dropbox will create a Photos folder and Public folder automatically for you.
  • If you create a folder inside 'Photos' folder, it will automatically create a photo gallery with the folder name given by you. You can then share this photo gallery with your friends by going to http://www.dropbox.com/photos.
  • If you put any files in 'Public' folder, you may share the file instantly with your friends by right clicking the file, choosing 'Dropbox' -> 'Copy Public Link', and give the link to your friend!
